Professional chemical peels in Boise, Idaho

The right peel is about depth, skin history, and recovery time.

Light and medium-depth peels create controlled exfoliation with different goals, risks, and visible recovery windows.

Controlled exfoliation, selected for a reason.

A peel solution creates a controlled shedding response. The depth depends on the formula, concentration, application, and condition of your skin.

As treated layers release, the goal may be smoother texture, a brighter and more even-looking surface, or improvement in selected acne and discoloration concerns. More depth also means more recovery and more risk.

Peel depth should follow the skin and the calendar.

A deeper peel is not automatically better. It is a larger recovery commitment with different risks and aftercare.

Light peel

Superficial exfoliation for selected surface texture, dullness, congestion, or uneven-looking tone with a shorter recovery window.

Medium-depth peel

A deeper treatment for selected concerns when the client can follow a more involved preparation and recovery plan.

Reasons to wait

Active infection, open skin, sunburn, recent hair removal, certain medications, and upcoming sun exposure can all change the timing.

Do not plan a peel around the best-case timeline.

Skin may look and feel treated before it looks refreshed. The visible recovery is part of the decision.

Before

Prepare the barrier.

Avoid tanning and significant sun exposure. Disclose medications, recent procedures, cold sore history, and every active product in your routine.

During

Depth is controlled.

The formula and application are chosen for your skin and goal. A medium-depth peel is a different clinical and recovery decision from a light peel.

After

Let skin release on its own.

Redness, dryness, darkening, flaking, crusting, swelling, and visible peeling may occur. Pulling or scrubbing skin can increase infection, pigment-change, and scarring risk.

Peeling is not the moment to improvise.

A light peel may create redness, dryness, and flaking for several days. A medium-depth peel can involve redness, swelling, darkening, crusting, and active peeling for longer.

Let skin shed naturally

Do not pick, peel, scrub, or scratch. Pulling away skin early can increase the risk of infection, pigment change, and scarring.

Avoid heat

Avoid excessive heat for at least 3 days and follow any longer restriction provided for your peel depth.

Protect from sun

Avoid direct sun for at least 2 weeks, use broad-spectrum SPF, and do not resume retinoids, exfoliants, or hair removal until the skin is fully healed.

youth.o.logy's usual estimate is about 1 to 3 days for a superficial peel and 5 to 10 days for a medium-depth peel. Individual healing can take longer.

Chemical peel questions, answered plainly.

Will I definitely peel?

Not in the same way with every formula or person. A light peel may produce subtle dryness or flaking. A medium-depth peel is more likely to create visible shedding.

What is the difference between a light and medium-depth peel?

Depth, goals, risk, and recovery. A medium-depth peel reaches deeper tissue than a superficial peel and asks more of your aftercare schedule.

Can I pick the peeling skin?

No. Pulling or scrubbing it away can increase the risk of infection, pigment change, and scarring.

Can I get a peel before vacation?

Usually not right before a sunny trip. Sun avoidance and consistent protection matter before and after treatment, and a medium-depth peel needs a real recovery window.

Is a peel appropriate for darker skin tones?

It can be, but formula, preparation, depth, and provider experience matter because pigment changes are a known risk. This requires an individualized assessment.

How many peels will I need?

There is no universal number. A plan depends on depth, goal, response, and the other products or procedures in your routine.
